The ethos of this ever-popular style, developed in the 30s in Scandinavian countries, was this. Cut back to the essentials and do so without sacrificing style. So practical and stylish. This type of home design will therefore look clean, fresh, informal, and uncluttered, but on the flip side warm, cosy and inviting too. So the style emphasises clean linear lines, natural materials and woods with a focus on the outdoors and natural light. Lots of it. So let’s get down to the fundamentals.

When designing an area try to leave a space for a table lamp or two. They are decorative, provide texture, colour, shape and most of all some drama. They can shout out the style influence of the space. Place them on furniture, floor or a shelf. What better way to start 2023 than with some interior design colour inspiration for your home? It is a good way in the countdown to Spring with thoughts of warmer days, daffodils and longer days. Even if you did not have plans for interior design just yet, you can refresh your space with the introduction of colour. Paint your walls, ceilings, wood trims, doors, and kitchen cabinets or upcycle small vintage shop bargains.

This is about a talented “creative to watch". Colour is trending in 2023. People are asking for more colour in their homes. I am not saying that the passion for Scandi design is waning but the joy of colour in interior design is raising its joyous head. Think Boho design and Maximalist decor. Artwork & accessories are a wonderful way to introduce some shades, tints and tones to an interior.

Some publications lovingly call the trend “Granny Chic" or I have also seen the style referred to as “Cottagecore '' in the US. A blend of traditional, rustic, classic, charity shop treasures and boot sale finds. Keep some empty spaces and a neutral colour backdrop. Items are often mismatched so carefully place items and light well. You don't want it to look like the inside of a vintage charity shop

For me, there is nothing like designing the Main Bedroom. It is a personal place to retreat to, not for houseguests but for you, a personal sanctuary. It is said the star of the show is the bed - the largest item in the room and we often spend the most money on it. The best supportive act though and the real star of the show is the humble multi-purpose nightstand - traditionally known as the bedside table.

So here's the thing, tiles are not only options for bathrooms and kitchens. Tiles are not only options for floors and backsplashes. They are a surface decoration so they can be used on walls in any room of your home.
