10 Best Reasons to Use an E-Design Service

Digital mock up of a living room

Introduction

So you could try a free or inexpensive design service and your results would be similar to browsing at Wayfair or Next Home. Both these sites display some wonderful products and if you are comfortable product sourcing good looking items yourself then it is a challenge you may wish to take. Also if your home looks wonderful and you just need a coffee table and possibly a new headboard then you will be tempted to do it alone.

If you are able though, engage a professional interior designer. A professional can offer you a variety of specialised services and not entice you into services you do not need.

So the client above who requires only two important items of furniture to complete their home, a few hours consultation should be sufficient. Some professional designers offer collaborative services if you need to run your idea(s) past an expert to enable you to make the best choice.

If you moved into your new home with a mix of university furniture, gifts from parents, ageing Swedish flat-pack furniture and some charity shop finds - it's maybe time to engage a designer.

What I hope to make you aware of is that there are options when engaging a design service. A full service is the top of the line service you can engage in and the most expensive as it requires a lot more involvement, work and travel. You can also get a service of equal stature provided by the same person who will provide a service completely online. The communication is still there including a consultation and a well thought out questionnaire that will allow the designer to get to know you,

  • Member of specialised industry association

  • Has creative and technical expertise

  • Accredited credential or two

  • Earns a living from the specialty studied

  • Professionally understands and satisfies customers’ needs

  • CPD involvement - Keeps their knowledge up to date

  • The word ‘professional’ implies that you are an expert in your field not, a talented hobbyist with great taste

There is always a reason why a service is discounted and I will explain below why e-design is so affordable. Remember nothing is ever free in business!

E-Design is all conducted online. The designer has minimal expenses to charge the client for. So the service does not include travel to the site of the project. No petrol, tolls, taxis, trains, congestion charges etc. No Costa coffee to or from the project site.

Most product sourcing is also online from selected and reliable suppliers and some trade account suppliers. Essential trips to speciality areas and design centres for the Designer are treated as a general expense.

Consultations are virtual. Telephone, emails and video.

Most measurements are taken from architectural drawings, customers’ measurements or suppliers of bespoke furniture.

Complete a questionnaire online for you to further explain your requirements, style and boundaries.

With a collection of this information, the design process can commence.

You could literally save thousands of pounds.

3. Moodboards, Floor Plans, Concept Boards, Itemised Shopping Lists

For this client the aerial floor plan (top) indicates the placement of the 14 items that have been specified for this Guest Room. Another project (below) is the initial moodboard for the Master Bedroom that was sent to the clients for review. The bed turned out to be too expensive and an alternative was submitted. A small sample here of the type of visuals that will be delivered to your inbox. The process is a collaboration of interior design between the Designer and the client.

You have taken the leap and purchased a property. Now the surveyor has left the site, the structural work has been completed, the scaffolding is being disassembled and the first fix is underway. It is time to bring in a designer for collaboration. Maybe you just need a Finish Schedule or Colour Scheme. This is an investment, spend a little on a design service so your property appreciates in value. This can attract top sales price if re-selling, get you quality tenants if renting or give you a stylish home for you if this is your plan.

Confused with endless Pinterest boards, design magazine features and media advertising. Wandering through the web and cannot focus on design styles, specific decoration or colour schemes. How do your ideas become reality?

Left alone this could take months or years. Do you have the time? Do you have the patience?

This service works perfectly with your Covid-19 caution as virtual services eliminate the need for a site visit so you get a first-class service but the Designer does not have to visit your home.

10. One Room option

You have tackled most of your home in a style that is pleasing to you and your family but there is one room that you have no idea how to turn into a stylish, comfortable well-designed space. Is it very small, very large, has awkward alcoves, badly placed windows or low ceilings etc. etc.

Maybe you do not have the time or inclination to tackle it. E-design is charged by the room and if one room is all you need help with then you will get one stunning room.

Finally…

More designers are now offering an E-Design service, the more established of them offering it as an additional service in an effort to keep up with their client's modern lifestyles and to stay current. It is such a fabulous direction in interior design that some designers have started their design businesses exclusively with E Design services.

If you think this service could be a good fit you could start by contacting us at Ar’mes Design Studio - let's talk! I would love to hear from you.
