6 of the Best White Paints I love as a Residential Designer

The Introduction

Today’s interiors are very colourful and although you might only think of White as a colour for ceilings or wood trims do give them an opportunity. These favourite whites of mine are all mixed and provide a great canvas for the colourful rugs and furnishings we currently love. Also note that they work well with the northern light that dominates our lives.

1. Mylands “No. 4 Charterhouse”

Mylands is Britain’s oldest, family-owned manufacturer of paint. These are richly pigmented paints with real depth of colour. Mention this to your architect or designer a truly luxurious paint.

2. Edward Bulmer “White Lead”

Edward Bulmer is an authentic, ethical manufacturer of breathable plastic-free paint. Seriously studied colours formulated by an interior designer with a passion for colour. This choice will provide a white with yellow/grey tones so makes it suitable for walls or woodwork. The eco paint of discerning professionals - mention this to your interior designer.

3. Dulux “Pure Brilliant White”

Dulux is so readily available, cost effective and with a multitude of colours. Historically the best friend of Builders and Construction professionals. This selection brings light and the illusion of space to an interior. The introduction of warmth can come from furnishings and texture. Your builder is sure to recommend this.

4. Fired Earth “Neve”

Fired Earth’s paints offer depth and complexity but with clear and energetic tones. This selection is a chalky versatile paint colour that works well with not only but extremely well with Scandi and modern design. One of their newest colours to watch out for.

5. Farrow & Ball “Strong White”

Farrow & Ball - synonymous with THE paint supplier of choice and renown internationally. So many whites available but this one I like as it is a good Contemporary Neutral. A smart choice for kitchens working very well with coloured cabinets and any type of flooring. You will probably discover this before your design team.

6. Little Green Company “Loft White”

Little Green Company has a light fresh colour range with historial colour influences from many notable periods. With the very best carefully created colour cards that make coordinating colour schemes really easy.

Finally…

These Top 6 Fabulous White paint choices are the author’s favourites.

Note also that images are presented by talented photographers and not related to the paints. Selected simply to enhance the overall presentation and because I like them!

Do check that your paints are available in water-based options. So important as this formulation is more environmentally friendly, with little to no odour and cleans up easily.

Sample Pots are inexpensive and I suggest painting a card with two coats of colour and see if it puts a smile on your face.
