Introduction

If you are about to refresh your bedroom decor please take a moment to read this. For me, there is nothing like designing the Main Bedroom. It is a personal place to retreat to, not for houseguests but for you, a personal sanctuary. It is said the star of the show is the bed - the largest item in the room and we often spend the most money on it. The best supportive act though and the real star of the show is the humble multi-purpose nightstand - traditionally known as the bedside table.

1. Corinthia - Sofa & Chair Company

A generous top! You might decide to place a vase with silk orchids, a decanter with glass, eyeglasses, a mobile phone, an aromatic diffuser, a journal and a pen. All your personal stuff. Some of this stuff may “disappear” during the day but is vital at bedtime.

This stylish table has been on one of my Pinterest boards for some time and it is the most saved item on the board. It is sleek, modern, minimalistic, well designed and has generous drawers for storage.

3. The Oregon - Natural Bed Company

The Oregon is a low modern bedside table - for low sleepers, students in halls, and clean minimalist enthusiasts with an appreciation for Japandi design. The table boasts a strikingly simple, clean elegant aesthetic.

4. A little Bling - Brice- Lush Interiors

We all love a little bling but do not always admit to it. This is not just a showstopper but a very practical nightstand boasting two useful drawers and a top generous enough to display a bone china trinket dish.

Feng Shui enthusiasts will know that a messy area is associated with a cluttered mind. An orderly top will create a serene environment to improve your sleep quality.  These open spaces encourage neat displays.

These proportioned but slightly wild units are a good choice. My thoughts default to a masculine vibe, black walls, leather headboards, floor uplights, whiskey glasses, loud music, industrial pendants, circular beds, wooden floors et al. A typical ‘rocker’s’ dream bedroom. Maybe not. A clever combination of a glossy black resin and wood with beautifully enhanced grain.

7. 80s coloured moiré nightstands - Selency

I am not in the market for bedside tables but, if I were, I would snap these up in a hurry. Imagine these on either side of your bed! If you happen to buy these, I would love to hear from you. Vintage masterpieces!!

8. Functional & Beautiful - Fontana - Oka 

You have to know what you need to put on top of this beauty and make sure it is presentable. A round side table, expertly crafted from recycled elm. The ornate lattice pattern around the sides elevates this side table/bedside table from simple to striking. A 45cm diameter top for personal belongings

9. Malone II - Dwell

Modest and unassuming but still handsome with lots of storage space. The joy of this type of style is that it is easy to incorporate into many design themes. A nice sleek stylish contemporary night table in a light grey gloss lacquer finish.

10. Mimi - Loaf

From French Country to Shabby Chic or to lighten up a Traditional theme this understated but tasteful stand has shape and character. It is gently washed in a soft colour enhancing the wood grain. With a drawer to hold your personal bits and a top wide enough to show off a lamp plus an item of decorative design. And her name is ‘Mimi’!

11. Mumbai - Rhubarb, Malvern

This would fit seamlessly into a colourful Boho Bedroom. Alternatively, it would be just at home in an Asian-themed bedroom with colourful silky fabrics. It is not just a pretty unit but practical too, as it comes with a protective bevelled glass top. If you are visiting Malvern Hills stop at this treasure trove on the way up.

12. Mirrored 3 Drawer Bedside - Homesdirect 365

What would Marilyn say? Yes, diamonds are a girl's best friend and although this is only a faceted mirror piece it is very shiny and reflective. It could make your space appear more spacious and very sexy and will brighten up your bedroom for sure. This lovely little mirrored bedside table has three useful drawers for storage.

13. Mabel - Anthropologie

With thoughts of Calypso music and rum punches or metal bowls piled with biryani, straw hats or flip-flops. If this beautiful side/bedside table can evoke these images for you when you enter the room then its magic has begun. In design, we have to find the balance between functionality and aesthetics and this may lean one way but can we resist?

14. Alba Modular - Woodendot

Many different finishes. Many different colours, many different configurations. What it is, is clever, unusual and fun.
